GSA Summit 2013:

February 13, 2013:
GSA Summit 2013 was a huge success!  We can’t believe that it’s already been a week and a half since The Living Room’s “Justice League” hung out with several amazing folks at Clackamas Community College on February 2nd, 2013 for our superhero themed Summit.  We had approximately 60 people attend from 13 schools/organizations in Clackamas County and the greater Portland area.

Youth participants had the opportunity to participate in a variety of workshops and discussions, some of which included: “Self-Advocacy for Youth in Clackamas County” (The Living Room), “HIV 101” (ChatPDX), “Self Esteem for LGBTQQ Youth”(PSU student), “Non-Profit Story Telling” (Pride Foundation), “With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility” (Clackamas Women’s Services), “Queer College” (Lewis and Clark student), “Sex Jeopardy” (The Living Room), “Equalizing 101” (Equalize It!), and “Understanding and Supporting Transgender Youth” (TransActive).  Adult participants were able to brainstorm with PFLAG and The Living Room about important topics, such as “Making a Difference in Rural Schools,” and “Creating and Maintaining Safe Communities in Clackamas.”

A heartfelt thank you goes out to ALL of the amazing people and organizations that helped make this day successful:
Clackamas Community College LGBTQ/Straight Alliance for hosting Summit for the 4th year, Keynote speakers Alex and Jay –Jay for pumping us up for the day, Happyrock Coffee for keeping us caffeinated , Voodoo Donuts for providing the sweets, Baja Fresh for the delicious dinner, all of the organizations listed above for putting the time and effort into creating and facilitating super important workshops, Youth M.O.V.E. Oregon and Cascade AIDS Project for providing resources during our tabling portion, countless TLR volunteers who dedicated their Saturday morning and afternoon to helping out, and our fearless GSA Summit Coordinator, Jessica LeBron (aka “Junkinator”).
